Play Your Cards Right IEI!!

IEI won
the campus-wide decorating contest!

WINNING!!

Yeah!
Kudos to US!
Congratulations to US!

We decorated with playing cards and a whole casino theme focused around the great diversity in the IEI complete with passports and cards games from around the world.

We decorated our office doors with maps and flags from different countries and set up card tables with games from several of our representative countries. On one of the bulletin boards outside the main office, we set up a graffiti board where students signed their names in their own languages.

Indeed, the judges were impressed!
Thank you everyone for all your hard work and
team spirit!

Ball State Fight Song

Monday's Music Pick for this week must be the
Ball State Fight Song

Fight songs are written and used to promote school spirit. Every school has one. Groups of students and Alumni will sing their school song enthusiastically for years to come.

The lyrics are below, and you can also hear the music on this Youtube flick

Fight team fight for Ball State
We must win this game
Onward now you Cardinals
Bring glory to your name
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Here's to both our colors
Cardinal and White
Praying for a victory
So fight, fight, fight!

And do you know the word "mascot"?
noun
Well it is an animal, person, or thing that a group of people take on to represent them. It is supposed to bring good luck. At Ball State, our mascot is a cardinal - and that is also the official state bird of Indiana.

We have nick-named the Ball State mascot "Charlie" and I'm sure you have seen Charlie Cardinal around campus from time to time. If you go to a football or basketball game, you will be sure to see Charlie Cardinal running around shooting energy and school spirit into the crowds of people.

AND...
Think about this year's homecoming theme:
play your cards right
This is actually a play on words because "cards" is also short for "cardinals
so the slogan means for the Cardinal football team to play a great
- and winning -
game!

What is “Homecoming”?

What is “Homecoming”?

Homecoming is a very American tradition on college campuses. It is a term that refers to a specific weekend when the school’s alumni are invited to come back “home” for special events and activities. Note: Alumni means people who have graduated from that school – so when you leave Muncie with your degree in hand, you will be a Ball State University Alum (singular of alumni – we usually use this word in its plural form: alumni).

Campuses all across the nation celebrate homecoming festivities throughout the fall season. Each school usually has something unique to their own school culture as well as typical traditions.
Some of the typical traditions include a parade, a queen and king court, tailgating and a football game. We have all of these things, too, at Ball State. We also have a few one-of-a-kind traditions such as the BEDRACE

Another tradition is to decorate the school with school colors and an enthusiastic competition between colleges, departments, dorms, and more. Have you been to the IEI this past week? If so, you have certainly seen us working to decorate according to this year's theme: Play Your Cards Right. On Friday university judges went around to all the departments that participated in this year's competition to take pictures and notes. Did we win??? Stop by the IEI this week to find out. And check back here later for pictures of our really cool decorations.

This week I’m going to post information about homecomings in general and about ours at Ball State in particular. Keep posted! What you learn here will help you spot the various activities on campus and will make it more interesting and fun for you.

We are never ever ever ever getting back together

Here is Monday's Music Pick: Taylor Swift's
"We are never ever ever ever getting back together"

I remember when we broke up, the first time
Saying this is it, I've had enough, 'cause like
We haven't seen each other in a month
When you, said you, needed space, what?
Then you come around again and say
Baby, I miss you and I swear I'm gonna change
Trust me, remember how that lasted for a day
I say, I hate you, we break up, you call me, I love you

Oooh we called it off again last night
But Oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you
We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends talk
To my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

Like ever...

I'm really gonna miss you picking fights
And me, falling for it screaming that I'm right
And you, will hide away and find your piece of mind, with some indie record
That's much cooler than mine

Oooh you called me up again tonight
But oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you
We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends talk
To my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

I used to think, that we, were forever ever
And I used to say never say never

(Talks)

Huh, he calls me up and he's like, I still love you
And I'm like, I'm just, I mean this is exhausting, you know
We are never getting back together, like ever

(Sings)

We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends talk
To my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

We, oooh, oooh, not back together, we
Oh, getting back together

You go talk to your friends talk
To my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together

Muncie Music Festival!

Music Festival in Downtown Muncie

Happy Friday everyone!
Its going to be a great weekend,
topped off with an explosion of live music
tomorrow
in the downtown area!
Check it out!

Tomorrow evening is the fifth annual Muncie MusicFest!

I think you will be truly impressed to see Muncie's Downtown area come alive with Ball State students, local residents, and live music everywhere! This year's event will have 10 different stages - some outside and some inside bars and/or restaurants. The event organizers are boasting a total of 61 bands throughout the evening. I take that to mean that there is something for everyone!

Anyone can go - any age, but keep in mind, that some of the events are hosted in drinking environments and require an ID to verify that you are at least 21 years of age. There will be entry points where you pay the $10.00 entrance fee and the streets will be open to pedestrians, closed to vehicles, so you can then just wander from one venue to the next.

Click here to see the schedule of bands.

I'll be there, and I hope to see you, too!

Everybody Talks (Neon Trees)

Hey baby won't you look my way
I can be your new addiction
Hey baby what you gotta say?
All you're giving me is fiction

I'm a sorry sucker and this happens all the time
I found out that everybody talks
Everybody talks, everybody talks

It started with a whisper
And that was when I kissed her
And then she made my lips hurt
I could hear the chitchat
Take me to your love shack
Mamas always gotta backtrack
When everybody talks back

Hey honey you could be my drug
You could be my new prescription
Too much could be an overdose
All this trash talk make me itching

Oh my my shit
Everybody talks, everybody talks
Everybody talks too much

It started with a whisper
And that was when I kissed her
And then she made my lips hurt
I could hear the chitchat
Take me to your love shack
Mamas always gotta backtrack
When everybody talks back

Never thought I'd live to see the day
When everybody's words got in the way

Hey sugar show me all your love
All you're giving me is friction
Hey sugar what you gotta say?

It started with a whisper
And that was when I kissed her
And then she made my lips hurt
I could hear the chitchat
Take me to your love shack
Mamas always gotta backtrack
When everybody talks back

Everybody talks
Everybody talks
Everybody talks
Everybody talks
Everybody talks
Everybody talks... back

It started with a whisper (everybody talks, everybody talks)
And that was when I kissed her (everybody talks, everybody talks)

Everybody talks
Everybody talks... back
