Ice cream in the Fun-See city!

Chuck Lofton says that it’s going to be beautiful weather all weekend long! And because beautiful weather in Indiana is fairly rare, you will want to be sure to get out and enjoy it. As we near the end of summer, the eating ice-cream outside days are numbered. So why not enjoy a little hometown Muncie atmosphere and have yourself a cold, sweet treat at one of these spots?

This 50’s style restaurant/ice cream shop is located at the end of Jackson street (drive west past the campus) in a tiny village called Cammack. The owners took the old gas station that was active there in the 1930s and ‘40s and turned it into a quaint little gathering place. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and both are comfortable and attractive.

Ritter's
This outdoor ice cream shop features frozen custard. Frozen custard is a special kind of ice cream that include egg yolks in the recipe to make it a softer, richer texture and taste. Because Ritter's offers outdoor seating only (drive-up service all year round) you should try it out before it gets too cold. Also, it is important to note that they offer 25% off for Ball State students with an ID!

Ritter's also has a Doggie event the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Sponsored by ARF (Animal Rescue Fund), people are invited to bring their dogs for ice cream treats on these special days.

This is a rather new shop, located on S. Tillotson (just south of the hospital). Here you can serve yourself with soft frozen yogurt and then go to the toppings bar to create your own specialty. Toppings include candy pieces, sauces, nuts, and fresh-cut fruits. Prices are based on weight, so after you’ve filled your cup, take it to the register and they will put it on a scale. They only have outdoor seating.

Enjoy a game of miniature golf with friends and family and then relax with some ice cream or custard at Muncie Frozen Custard right next door.
